LANDSCAPE OF THE SPIRITS – Sara Ajnnak & The Ciderhouse Rebellion
“dark, dazzling… blends ancient song with fearless improvisation” The Guardian ★★★★
Lauded songwriter, captivating performer, and endlessly curious creative mind
Landscape of the Spirits is a collaboration between the originators of folk improv – English duo The Ciderhouse Rebellion – and Sámi singer and yoiker Sara Ajnnak. Hailing from Sápmi – the land of the Indigenous Sámi people spanning Sweden, Norway, Finland, and parts of northern Russia – Sara brings a deeply emotional and ethereal vocal presence melding seamlessly with the evocative strings of Adam Summerhayes and Murray Grainger’s accordion, with its rhythmic and deep bass tones. The trio spontaneously weave together a timeless and transformative soundscape, transporting the listener to Sápmi while carrying a dual message: an urgent concern for the future as climate change reshapes the traditional way of life, and a powerful connection to an ancient heritage.
