Twigg’s Gigs Exeter is a real family affair. Founder and music lover Simon Twigg is helped by his wife Sarah (who makes the most delicious cakes) and even the kids help to set up and take down.
The venture, which brings some world class artists to an intimate set up at St James’ Church Hall in Mount Pleasant Road, Exeter, has been going for two years now. “Reg Meuross is a fabulous musician who completely grabbed my attention from the very first time I saw him live. It’s really down to Reg that I had the confidence to grow Twigg’s Gigs from an annual gig opportunity for my friend and another great musician, Steve Pledger, to the regular gigs that I now host. Reg approached me and asked if I’d like to put on a gig for him… I leapt at the chance and Twigg’s Gigs was born. I thought ‘if Reg has confidence in me, then the sky’s the limit!’. Funnily enough I was on a train passing through Crewkerne, Reg’s home town, when I sketched out the first plans for Twigg’s gigs.
Twigg’s Gigs has grown, just two years later, into a wonderful community of musicians and supporters of live music. The gigs, which started in Hope Hall and have now moved to the larger but still intimate space of St James’ Church Hall, have a similar feel to that of being at a house concert: candles on the tables, tea and cake at half time (BYO alcohol), and Simon’s warm and friendly welcome and introductions.
