Brand new pop up choir The Milk Roulettes have been rehearsing in for an exciting one off concert. They will be backing vocalists for the legendary, multi award-winning singer songwriter Charlie Dore on Friday 16th at The South Devon Arts Centre. The group, from all walks of life (teachers, writers, web designers), are all local and responded to a call just 3 weeks ago for singers of all experiences to join forces as backing vocalists for a fresh take on Charlie’s iconic hit ‘Pilot of the Airwaves’ and two other songs, one from new album Milk Roulette which is packed with exquisite, poignant and witty stories in song, and the Roulettes will be singing along with ‘Best Man’ a cautionary tale about the perils of neglecting your wife.
Some atmospheric and lively rehearsals have taken place in the Kingsbridge Inn and Tangerine Tree cafe in Totnes, and the Milk Roulettes are nearly ready to deliver!
Charlie is on tour throughout the UK and, with muti-instrumentalist Julian Littman of Steeleye Span, promises Totnes a fantastic night of eclectic, contemporary folk as the pair swap guitars, piano, mandolin, harmonium, & ukulele. The night will be opened by Totnes singer songwriter Keith Jones, with a public premiere of a song (co written with Californian songwriter Erin Bentley) about climate change: ‘The Seahorses Have Left Town’, and by harmonious local a cappella quintet Heartwave Chorus.
Charlie’s songs have been covered by the good and the great including Tina Turner, George Harrison, Lisa Stansfield, Paul Carrack, Ricky Ross, Celine Dion and Jimmy Nail, notching up along the way a UK No 1, US No 4, No 11 for her own Pilot of the Airwaves and hits in Italy, Germany, France and Israel. This night will reveal that she saves the best songs for herself.
