Award-winning singer-songwriter Reg Meuross has written a song cycle, 12 Silk Handkerchiefs, which will be performed as a multi media show, scripted and narrated by Brian, and performed by Reg along with other musicians. This very special preview at Kardomah94 will include Hull’s own Sam Martyn.

In March 2017 Reg Meuross was invited to play a concert in Hull. He had already heard about ‘Big Lil Bilocca’ and her successful efforts back in the late 60’s to pressure the government into introducing much tighter safety methods in the fishing industry after the triple trawler tragedy of 1968 and was drawn to find out more while he was there.

His research led him to the book on the subject ‘The Headscarf Revolutionaries’ By Brian Lavery and to local musician Mick MacGarry. Together they went for an in depth tour of the docks which were the heart of the Hull fishing industry. Mick gave Reg a collection of local songs and Brian a copy of his book. The detail in the book of the realities of the harsh life this tightly knit community endured, the long bitter working hours and brutal conditions at sea provided some really rich source material for a song cycle based on this fascinating period of British industry in the North East.
