Tuesday Oct 31st is World Dark Matter Day
Charlie Dore released her 9th album, Dark Matter – lead song ‘Breakfast of Neutrinos’ – in May and is touring throughout 2017 & ’18 to promote it. It’s actually a metaphor for the mysteries of our own, inner space, but was inspired by articles Charlie started reading in New Scientist, along the way making up for the science education she never had at school. Many of the leading lights in astro physics these days are female, which is encouraging.
The album has had great *reviews including a treasured response from Professor Neil Lambert, the UK’s leading professor of Theoretical Physics at Kings College London.
Charlie has written songs for many other artists, including George Harrison, Tina Turner & Celine Dion, but I believe this is the only song in the world ever written about Neutrinos. As Dark Matter Days don’t come around very often it seemed a good opportunity to talk about it & play something relevant… She has a strong following including Eric Idle, Michael Palin and Jonathan Pryce who were among her audience at The Pheasantry in Soho this weekend.
“Dark Matter…an amazingly astute, moving, intelligent and connected songwriter…a voice like Kate McGarrigle meets Dory Previn. Wonderful ”. Mike Harding
“Beautiful, existential, metaphysical and intriguingly other. Zen folk I want to call it…Charlie Dore’s ‘Time Out of Mind’ “ Ricky Ross, BBC Scotland
‘A songwriter of exceptional talent…what singles Dore out from the rest is her lyrics. One of the UK’s most original talents.’ Rock & Reel
“I think that the metaphor with neutrinos is very good: we go through life in a world full of people with whom we don’t interact. But then occasionally there is someone and even though the interaction might be fleeting the impact is long-lasting (well on one of the two at least). We sometimes refer to colleagues who don’t talk much as having a neutrino-like cross section.” Professor Neil Lambert, Professor of Theoretical Physics, Kings College London
