THE SHOW Charlie Dore with Julian Littman
A very special evening of eclectic, contemporary folk with crunchy lyrics as Charlie Dore, one of the UK’s most respected songwriters teams up with Julian Littman of Steeleye Span to share songs from her latest album, Dark Matter, which this summer won both Album of the Year and Best Lyrics from the US Indie Acoustic Awards.
The evening promises a fast moving show as the pair swap guitars, mandolin, harmonium, ukulele, piano and autoharp along with the stories behind the songs and the kind of banter that only comes from knowing each other since they were 16 years old. They’ll dip into favourites from the past 6 albums too as well as sharing stories and original acoustic versions of hits Charlie has written for others, including George Harrison and Jimmy Nail. She may even include a new version of Pilot of the Airwaves if we ask nicely…
Charlie has also worked as an actress in theatre, film, radio and tv as well as co-founding Soho Comedy-Improv venue, The Hurricane Club, working alongside many comedy icons including Bill Bailey, Jo Brand and even Robin Williams.
While her own albums favour her more eclectic/roots leanings, she is one of a handful of UK writers to achieve success across many genres, defined by the range of artists to have recorded her songs, including Tina Turner, George Harrison, Celine Dion, Lisa Stansfield, Paul Carrack,Status Quo, Ricky Ross and Jimmy Nail, notching up along the way a UK No 1, a US No 4 and Top 10 hits in Italy, Germany and France. Her own hit, Pilot of the Airwaves is still a worldwide radio favourite.
